The Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion - Game Review

When you wake up in the imperial prison not knowing what crime you committed and get send on a quest you don't give a crap about you're either high or playing Oblivion. Oblivion is the creation of Take 2 games and Bethesda softworks and was released 20 march 2006.

Don't let that date fool you, it's still one of the best looking games around, it has great anti-aliasing (up to and including 16 times), supports high resolution (max 1920 x 1200) and has blooming options. The scenery however is a bit repetitive, it's like they took 500 square feet from the English countryside, added a few wolves and copy pasted it a few times until it was roughly the size of New York

The character you walk these woods with is fully customizable, so you can make him look like you, but we all know what twat you are so that's not going to happen. Once you picked an appearance, race, zodiac and class you're set free in the epic world of exploring, quests and horrible creatures. Said horrible creatures are defeated by using a sword, magic or bow and arrow.

It is fairly easy to switch between those three mid-battle, when you open your backpack the game pauses so you have all the time in the world to pick a weapon of choice and vanquish your enemies with it. When you defeat enemies you gain experience, when you get enough experience you gain a level. With this level come certain points for you to distribute in certain skills and abilities, to increase the effectiveness of it. This is fairly easy earlier on in the game but when you advance it becomes more and more difficult to do.

You also have different set of skills that you can train by using them, like swinging a sword, casting spells and performing alchemy. These skills are fairly easy trained and are maxed out quickly, but that doesn't mean it's over for the game. The story missions rune out after 4 - 5 hours of playing. However there are side missions all over the place that'll take a couple hours to finish them all. The total game play time about 20 - 25 hours for completing all quests, but after that there are still dungeons and regions to explore which would take another 10 - 15 hours.

Oblivion is advisable for people who like RPG's and have the time to play them. For people who don't it'll be a bit of a drag to play it more then a couple hours before uninstalling it and go play Gears of War 2 for the 20th time.

Overall review

  • Game play The Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion game play
Standard controls, mouse to attack, ctrl to crouch, feels familiar.

  • Story The Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion game story
Not necessary to follow, and when you do it's hardly there.

  • Graphics The Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion game graphics
The graphics are truly stunning, to watch the beauty you need a good graphics card, though.

The Orange Box - Game Review When you order the orange box that's what your going to get, an orange box. But what's even more important is what's inside the box. Because, inside, there are some of the best games ever made: Half life 2, Portal and Team Fortress 2.

Psychonauts Game Review
Psychonauts - Game Review Psychonauts is a rather old game dating back to spring 2005 but still one of the best experiences you'll ever have on your pc. The mind behind Psychonauts is Tim Schafer and he did a damn fine job coming up with the concept.

Borderlands - Game Review
Borderlands - Game Review Right... Borderlands, the new RPS (Role Playing Shooter) from 2K games and gearbox software. The game was released on October 30 2009 and hit the stores pretty hard, there was a shortage in just 3 days for the PS3, Xbox 360 AND PC, but with good reason.

Left 4 Dead - Game Review
Left 4 Dead - Game Review If there is one developer I love it is Valve, their games are cunning and witty. Left 4 dead is a shooter, a zombie shooter that is and a good one too. It's fast paced, fun, and a good way to find out who is going to spas out under pressure.
