Grand Theft Auto 4 - Game Review

Another Grand theft auto game, another mindless rampage of blood, violence and whores. Actually I shouldn't describe it that way, there is actual story in the GTA games. This one is about a former Russian Soldier Niko Bellic and his cousin Roman Bellic, coming to Liberty City (New York) to find another former soldier who sold out his squadron. On the way, of course, he gets dragged into the underworld of New York that forces him to kill, rob and deal cocaine.

When you start the game, you play through some story missions before you can enjoy the city a little. The first thing I did was buy some boots, stick up a hamburger joint and watch a few in - game hours of television, when I realized "This seems a hell of a lot like the life of an average American". After that realisation I jacked a car and went nuts with a machine gun, so there's the GTA spirit.

Speaking of "spirits" there are also a lot of bars where you can get loaded with your cousin, but the funniest about it is that the police tries to arrest you when you drive drunk. The cops can be easily avoided by driving a straight road very fast and waiting for 20 seconds. If a fight is inevitable it can be easily won by taking cover and shooting behind it, or just soak up the damage and kill them at close range with a shotgun.

The story and game play may have a hairline fracture but the graphics are really good, the water reflects the scenery, anti-aliasing at 16 x and the cars get very realistic damage. The cars also handle realistic, meaning it's like driving a market trolley full of rocks. Cars can knock almost everything over, lampposts, trash cans, pedestrians. But when I was driving through the streets I met the strongest poplar tree, I was driving at least 50 miles per hour but was stopped by a single tree. It's kind of weird that you can break lampposts and traffic lights like twigs, but when you try to actually break a twig it won't let you.

The game is extremely fun to do and I recommend it to anyone who like previous GTA games. But if you REALLY want to enjoy it, you have to have a decent graphics card.
