Borderlands - Game Review
Right... Borderlands, the new RPS (Role Playing Shooter) from 2K games and gearbox software. The game was released on October 30 2009 and hit the stores pretty hard, there was a shortage in just 3 days for the PS3, Xbox 360 AND PC, but with good reason. The game kicks so much ass it has to buy special shoe polish to remove the stench of ass from its boots.
Bad analogies aside, the game is good, it just puts you in the wrong mind-set. You start off with some reasonable guns that kill the first 1 or 2 enemies with 2 - 3 shots, however when you advance in - game you better have some better guns or you'll be running away shitting bricks.
Speaking of guns, The game has a MASSIVE amount of guns, using new content generating technology. There are machine guns, pistols, shotgun, revolvers, sniper rifles, SMG and RPG's, this may sound like the standard FPS equipment but think again. The game can generate a standard revolver, but also a scoped revolver that lights the enemy on fire, or a shotgun that shoots acid, or a sniper rifle that shoots lightning. However the necessity of it is a little questionable.
There are four characters(classes) to play, and each has it' own knack for a few.
- There's the soldier (Roland), the perfect all - rounder if you don't know what to choose. He can put down a force field that heals you and supplies you with ammo and a turret that shoots the enemy automatically. He is specialized in machine guns, RPG's and shotguns.
- The hunter (Mordecai) has a falcon (named Bloodwing) that can attack enemies from a distance and is specialized in sniper rifles, pistols and revolvers.
- The siren (Lilith) has the ability to "phase walk" (switching between dimensional planes), basically its just invisibility. She is specialised in elemental weapons (fire, wind etc.).
- And finally there's the berserker (Brick). He's the melee class of the four, solving his problems with his fists instead of guns, punching enemies in the face.
Travelling is eased by the "catch-a-ride" stations, which spawns a car with a rocket launcher or machine gun making it easier to plough your way through wave after wave mutant psycho midgets. The world you can travel is rather small for a RPS and the story missions (30) run out pretty fast, this is compensated with the large online multi player system. You can team up or have a death match with any and everyone on the internet.
Overall review
- Game play

It's basic, shoot stuff, run over stuff with your car, loot, it's great! - Story

I tried to convince myself it was nothing like Fallout (with all the Vault shit), but the story is barely there so it hardly mattered. - Graphics

The artwork style look awesome, maybe some people prefer realism over self parody.

The Orange Box - Game Review
The Orange Box - Game Review When you order the orange box that's what your going to get, an orange box. But what's even more important is what's inside the box. Because, inside, there are some of the best games ever made: Half life 2, Portal and Team Fortress 2.
Psychonauts Game Review
Psychonauts - Game Review Psychonauts is a rather old game dating back to spring 2005 but still one of the best experiences you'll ever have on your pc. The mind behind Psychonauts is Tim Schafer and he did a damn fine job coming up with the concept.
The Witcher - Game Review
The Witcher - Game Review The Witcher is based on "The Last Wish" a book by Anderzej Zapkowski. When you start the witcher you get some quick tutorials thrown at you, how to swing your sword, perform alchemy and using magic. This may sound simple but it's more complicated than Microsoft Access, there is your glossary screen, quests, map, alchemy ingredients, when in battle you have to switch between strong fast and group style and when you are in combat you have to chose between a steel or silver sword.
Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles - Game Review
Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles - Game Review For those who are familiar with the Castlevania series, will notice that the story mode of the Dracula X Chronicles is just Rondo of Blood with upgraded graphics. For those who aren't familiar with Castlevania, you know now.
